Composting at home: how to start without smells or pests

By Fazendinha Retrô Team · Published on

To avoid strong smells in a home compost bin, control excess water and cover wet scraps with dry material. Choose a container that suits the amount your household produces.

Start small

Set aside peels and dry leaves, use a lid that keeps insects out and keep ventilation as your system requires. Add a little waste at a time until you understand the moisture of the mix.

If smells or flies appear

Cover exposed scraps, add less for a few days and adjust the amount of dry material. If the problem continues, review the instructions for your compost bin model.
