Harvest Moon: the series that popularized farming games and where to play something similar
The Japanese series Bokujō Monogatari began on the Super Nintendo in 1996. Known in its Western releases as Harvest Moon, it helped popularize the mix of farming, a calendar and village life.

What to bring to the comparison
Notice whether the seasons change your choices, whether the village has its own activities and how the game ends the day. That way the comparison goes beyond recognizing a straw hat or a barn.
Where to find that tradition
Marvelous documents the series continuing as Story of Seasons in the West. Fazendinha Retrô offers a short garden-and-neighbors route in the browser. If you prefer orders and tropical crops, try Pela Gardens.
