How to grow corn at home and in the backyard
To grow corn in the backyard, save a sunny spot with room for several plants close together. A block of short rows helps wind carry pollen.

Organize the rows
Sow in your local season and follow the spacing for the variety. Leave room to walk around the edges and keep the soil moist while the ears are forming.
Choose the harvest by use
To eat as sweet corn, check the variety's typical stage before the kernels harden. For seed or dry corn, timing changes and should follow the variety's instructions.
